Introduction

The Haghefilm Foundation Award is given by the Haghefilm Foundation to an individual of outstanding skills in moving image archival research, with the aim of supporting a project to be held at Nederlands Filmmuseum in Amsterdam. The Award consists of a monetary grant from the Haghefilm Foundation, enabling the recipient to undertake a research project related to the archival preservation of the moving image heritage, with the exclusion of a) projects exclusively aimed at the publication of books, articles, and conference papers; b) participation at festivals and conferences; c) internships in other organizations, hereinafter called the Award. The amount of the Award for the year 2011 is four thousand Euro.

Eligibility Criteria

All individuals are eligible for the Award, regardless of their age and educational background, with the exception of a) employees, contractors and interns of Haghefilm Conservation BV and of the Nederlands Filmmuseum; b) students currently enrolled in a graduate or post-graduate program; c) teachers and instructors in undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate courses; d) employees and contractors of commercial companies. Eligible candidates are required to be fluent in spoken and written English.

Applicants for the Award are required to submit a letter of intent addressed to the Haghefilm Foundation (including a declaration of compliance with the eligibility criteria described above) together with a photograph, a curriculum vitae and two letters of recommendation. Selection Process

The recipient of the Haghefilm Foundation Award will be chosen by a joint Selection Committee composed of members of the Haghefilm Foundation and of the Nederlands Filmmuseum. The Selection Committee has the right to not grant the Award in the event that there is no suitable candidate. Only the recipient of the Award will be notified about the decision of the Selection Committee before a public announcement is made. Unsuccessful candidates will not be individually informed about the decision.

Implementation

The project assigned to the recipient of the Award will be determined by the Nederlands Filmmuseum, in consultation with the Haghefilm Foundation and upon agreement with the recipient of the Award. The research project will be chosen from the attached list of potential topics (see below), drafted by the curatorial staff of the Nederlands Filmmuseum. The recipient of the Award has the option of suggesting additional research topics, which are subject to the approval of the Nederlands Filmmuseum after consultation with the Haghefilm Foundation. The duration of the project and the period of its implementation will be mutually agreed upon between the recipient of the Award and the Nederlands Filmmuseum. The recipient of the Award will submit a final written report to the Haghefilm Foundation and to the Nederlands Filmmuseum before the end of the project period, for possible publication on the Haghefilm Foundation’s website and in other publications.

Conditions

The Haghefilm Foundation and the Nederlands Filmmuseum are not responsible for any direct or incidental expense incurred by the recipient of the Award in the implementation of the project. The Haghefilm Foundation and the Nederlands Filmmuseum have the option, but not the obligation, to provide additional funding to the recipient of the Award for the completion of the project. The Haghefilm Foundation and the Nederlands Filmmuseum have the right to publish a brief profile and a photo portrait of the recipient of the Award in their respective publications and websites.
